A well-established export business based in Bellville, Cape Town is looking for an experienced Fruit Export Trader / Manager to drive the procurement and international sales of fresh fruit, with a strong focus on African island markets.
This is a true trading role – ideal for someone who thrives on building supplier relationships, negotiating deals, understanding market dynamics, and closing profitable export sales.

Education & Other Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Business, International Trade, Supply Chain, Agriculture, or similar
• Training in INCO Terms or international trade compliance advantageous
• Valid driver’s license
• Clear criminal record
What We’re Looking For
Experience
• Minimum 5+ years’ experience in fruit procurement or trading
• Strong exposure to grapes, citrus, or deciduous fruit exports (grapes preferred)
• Proven experience in international fruit trading (buying and selling)
• Track record in developing new markets or customer accounts
Industry Knowledge
• Deep understanding of fruit seasonality, quality standards, and export markets
• Knowledge of South African growers, packhouses, and supply chains
• Good understanding of export processes, documentation, and INCO terms
Commercial Skills
• Strong negotiation and deal-making ability
• Ability to balance supply, demand, and pricing to maximise margins
• Confident in managing customer relationships and closing export sales
Technical Skills
• Proficient in Excel, Word, and Microsoft Office
• Comfortable working with data and reporting systems (Qlik advantageous)
What You’ll Be Responsible For
International Fruit Trading
• Buy and sell grapes, citrus, and deciduous fruit in international markets
• Negotiate pricing and commercial terms with suppliers and customers
• Close deals and deliver against profit and margin targets
Supplier & Grower Procurement
• Source fruit from local growers, packhouses, and international suppliers
• Build and maintain strong relationships with farmers, producers, and exporters
• Secure supply for seasonal export programs
Export & Logistics Coordination
• Manage the export process from procurement through to shipment and delivery
• Ensure compliance with export regulations, documentation, and INCO terms
• Work closely with logistics providers and supply chain partners
Quality & Claims Management
• Ensure fruit meets export quality standards before shipment
• Resolve quality, quantity, or shipment claims with suppliers and customers
• Conduct quality checks at farms, packhouses, and cold storage facilities
Market Intelligence & Business Development
• Monitor global fruit markets, pricing trends, and exchange rates
• Identify new customers and export opportunities
• Build long-term relationships with international buyers and distributors
Industry Networking
• Represent the company at international trade shows and industry events
• Travel to meet key customers and suppliers
